This relaxed papa hula is to introduce keiki to the beats of the ipu heke and sweet sounds of the ukulele and leo. Or itʻs an opportunity for mākua to come hula and get your keiki out of the house. Bring your keiki, bring your baby carriers and start your mornings with some hula.
This papa is to introduce toddlers ages 3 - 5 to hula. Of course, our hope is that they grow to love it just as much as we do. This papa will help prepare haumāna to move forward in skill and will help promote and perpetuate a keikiʻs desire for hula through dance, language, activities, and performances.
This papa is for kaikamahine ages 6 – 12 and will delve deeper into hula through several different vessels of the Hawaiian culture. This papa is tailored to strengthen basic hand and foot movement and style of the hālau. Haumāna will also learn more about the Hawaiian language and preservation of culture. They may also be asked to participate in performances.
This advanced papa hula is for keiki ages 6 – 12 and is by invitation only. Haumāna of this papa will be held to higher expectations and experience more intense training through hula, oli and language. Strenuous physical, mental, emotional and spiritual training is part of their experience. Additionally, at this level haumāna will learn more about culture and legacy preservation. Haumāna are expected to participate in a variety of hōʻike & workshops, including national hula competitions, throughout the year.
This papa is for wahine ages 13+ and will delve deeper into hula through several different vessels of the Hawaiian culture. This papa is tailored to strengthen basic hand and foot movement and style of the hālau. Haumāna will also learn more about the Hawaiian language and preservation of culture. They may also be asked to participate in performances.
This advanced papa hula is for wahine ages 13+ and is by invitation only. Wahine of this papa will be held to higher expectations and experience more intense training through hula, oli and language. They may also be asked to participate in performances. By invitation, advanced, mature gracious ladies are expected to participate in a variety of hōʻike & workshops, including national hula competitions, throughout the year. The continuity of perpetuating the Hawaiian culture heavily relies on the passing of ʻike. ʻŌlapa of this papa hula may be asked to assist Kumu in other papa hula.
